Rice planting - in Auckland?
In the last few years the ethnic landscape of Auckland has changed significantly, becoming much more Asian. Fortunately I would say: better food, many hard working people. Hopefully the pivot is more of South East Asia though.
Lanterns Festival
It grows better every year. Still not as impressive as in Asia - but out of many (mediocre) festivities that you can stumble into in Auckland, this is probably one of the better ones. Well worth a trip.
Although quite good, the randomness of the festival remains truly Kiwi-style. . .
